About the Event

Join us Monday, January 20, from 9 am – 12 pm, for MLK, Jr. Planting Day with the National Park Service at Big Thicket National Preserve. We’ll enjoy a day in the woods planting native grasses and pollinator plants to support biodiversity in the Big Sandy Unit and restore habitat for the species that rely on longleaf pine savannas.

Volunteers will have to be able to hike 3/4 miles out and back to the planting site. Volunteers will also have added hiking miles on uneven terrain to complete the planting.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and long-sleeved shirts, and to bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Park staff will supply all necessary tools for the events.

More information will be sent out to all registered volunteers prior to the event which will give exact planting locations and the most updated information.

RSVP will be directed to: https://www.volunteer.gov/s/volunteer-opportunity/a09SJ000001eqs9YAA/mlk-jr-restoration-day
