Join Us to Inspire the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards!


The Lights Out, Texas! curriculum helps educators inspire students to protect migrating birds through engaging, TEKS-aligned lessons. These ready-to-use materials include lesson plans, presentations, and activities for grades 6–8, making it easy to connect classroom learning with real-world conservation action.


📝About the Workshop

Date: Saturday, September 13

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Location: Traphene Hickman Library, 450 Pioneer Trail, Cedar Hill, TX 75104

CPE Credit: Earn 3 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours for participating

Cost: Free

Audience: Primarily 6th–8th grade science teachers, but open to all educators and anyone interested in environmental education

10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

  • Lights Out, Texas! campaign overview

  • Explore the curriculum — Gain an overview of the Lights Out, Texas! program for grades 6–8, its objectives, and background knowledge to bring lessons to life.

12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

  • Library tour — Visit the Traphene Hickman Library to see bird-safe glass features and learn about its community involvement efforts.

Three modules are included and each module is designed for a 45-minute classroom lesson. Here’s the preview folder for Module One.
