About the Event

Join us Monday, February 20, from 9 am – 12 pm to plant baby grass shoots with the National Park Service at Big Thicket National Preserve. We’ll enjoy a day in the woods planting baby grass shoots to support the forest biodiversity of Big Sandy Creek and restore habitat for endangered species that rely on longleaf pine savannas.

TCA helped establish Big Thicket National Preserve, America’s first National Preserve, in 1974, which now protects 113,000 acres of wilderness. The Big Thicket is one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world, home to 89 tree species, carnivorous plants, 60 mammal species, 300 species of birds, and many reptiles and amphibians.

A BIG thank you to the following organizations!

•Big Thicket Biosphere Reserve

•Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust

•Big Thicket Association

•National Parks Conservation Association

•National Park Service

Informational packets will be sent out to all registered volunteers prior to the event that will give planting locations and the most updated logistical information.

RSVP will be directed to volunteer.gov
