Why it Matters
Texas sits in the Central Flyway, where billions of birds migrate each spring and fall. Bright city lights disorient them at night, pulling them into cities and could lead to deadly glass strikes. Up to one billion birds die in the U.S. each year from window collisions. By reducing non-essential lighting, we can save birds, cut energy costs, and protect our night skies.
Benefits of Participation
-
Wildlife Conservation: Help protect billions of migratory birds that pass through Texas.
-
Sustainability Leadership: Position your city or company as a leader in conservation and environmental stewardship.
-
Energy Cost Savings: Reducing unnecessary lighting lowers energy bills and operational costs.
-
Community Recognition: Participants will be recognized in press releases, communications, and social media spotlights.
