Successful Season for Lights Out for Wildlife!

TCA's Lights Out, DFW! program concluded its final surveys on May 31st for the spring migratory bird season in Dallas and Fort Worth. Spring Intern Skyler N. also initiated the Lights Out program at Texas A&M University College Station. Check out their findings in the reports below.

Pineywoods of East Texas

With the help of about 80 volunteers, we have removed over 1,100 pounds of litter from Hurricane Creek on the Azalea Trail this past year, protecting wildlife all the way to the Gulf of Mexico!


Spring 2023 Careers in Conservation Internship Program Updates

TCA's 10-week internship program this Spring consisted of 8 rising conservationists - the largest group since our program began in 2020! TCA's Summer internship is just beginning. Meet the 4 interns in the Spring/Summer report below.



TCA Policy & Advocacy Updates

Texas State 88th Regular Legislative Session

  • The Texas Legislature voted to post a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would establish a billion-dollar Centennial Fund for land acquisition for Texas State Parks. TCA urges its members to vote YES in November for this funding crucial to the future of the Texas State Park System.


United States Congress

  • John DeFillipo advocated in Washington, D.C. in favor of conservation provisions in the US Farm Bill.


Protecting Rivers

  • TCA took our efforts to save the Sulphur River to the Texas Legislature, to alert statewide leaders of the problems with the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir.


Recovering America's Wildlife Act (RAWA)

  • Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) reintroduced the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act in the US Senate this spring. Conservationists continue to push for this fund so essential to keep wildlife off the endangered species list.


Conserving Earth, Red River Radio

  • John DeFillipo was Janice’s guest for the May edition of Conserving Earth, the program TCA produces on Red River Radio, the NPR network that serves eastern Texas, northern Louisiana, and southern Arkansas. The topic was water recycling, a subject on which both John and Janice have extensive expertise.


Texas Wildlife - Mountain Lions

  • Janice Bezanson is serving on a stakeholder group making recommendations for managing mountain lions in Texas.
