EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Texas Conservation Alliance (TCA) is a 53-year-old non-profit conservation organization with a history of success securing prominent wildlife protections and advancing leaders in the conservation movement. It is the Texas affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation and coordinates a network of 50 organizations. JOB DESCRIPTION:  The Executive Director serves as the CEO of the organization, overseeing all aspects of programs, administration, and fundraising. The position requires extensive knowledge of Texas wildlife conservation challenges and state and local advocacy and policy issues, particularly related to protecting water resources and wildlife habitats. The preferred candidate will show success in fund development including securing grants; knowledge of organizational management and budgeting; and experience in public relations, conservation advocacy, and building partnerships and coalitions with a broad range of interests.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

​

Advocacy and Policy Programs

  • Collaborate with the Senior Policy Director to engage in non-partisan advocacy with Texas agencies, the state legislature, and Congress, to protect forests, prairies, rivers, and other wildlife habitats.

  • Build coalitions and conduct advocacy campaigns in partnership with conservation allies.

  • Comment on agency actions and environmental impact statements.

  • Lead outreach and grassroots efforts to mobilize public support or opposition to conservation issues.

  • Represent TCA’s wildlife conservation agenda through direct communications, public appearances, media, and social media outreach, and create informational materials to educate the public and decision-makers. 

  • Organize and host events, recruit and maintain partnerships and coalition participants, and engage in public forums and educational activities to raise awareness about TCA-led conservation initiatives.

Community Conservation Programs

  • Collaborate with the Community Conservation Director to champion community engagement through the Texas Conservation Action Team (TXCAT) program.

  • Work with TXCAT team to manage wildlife habitat restoration projects, waterways cleanups, and other community activities; expand current native plant propagation and distribution program.

  • Work with Lights Out, Texas! campaign team to advocate for reduced light pollution and promote bird-friendly glass solutions to protect migratory birds.

  • Engage with TCA’s Careers in Conservation internship program to mentor future conservationists.

Fund Development

  • Maintain and grow relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporations to support a $950,000 budget.

  • With grants team, write and submit grant proposals to secure funding for conservation projects.

  • Develop and implement donor engagement strategies to increase support for TCA’s mission.

  • Identify funding opportunities that generate new sources of revenue and expand earned income.

Board Relations

  • Collaborate with TCA’s volunteer non-profit Board to establish policies and the strategic visioning plan.

  • Facilitate effective communication between the Board and staff to ensure alignment on goals/priorities.

  • Develop and support Board committees to enhance organizational governance.

  • Provide regular updates to the Board on program activities, financial status, strategic initiatives, fundraising progress, and financial performance.

Member and Partner Relations

  • Foster and expand relationships with TCA members and partners, including the National Wildlife Federation and TCA’s alliance member organizations.

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow TCA’s membership base and expand TCA’s advocacy and community partnerships.

  • Coordinate joint initiatives and collaborative projects with partner organizations, and represent TCA at meetings, conferences, and events to build and strengthen partnerships.

Organizational Management and Staffing

  • Supervise three full-time employees who report to the Executive Director and up to 15 remote contractors who oversee program results; recruit, mentor, and oversee volunteers as needed.

  • Draft the annual budget for Board approval, report any budget variances, and oversee CPA’s accounting and tax filing activities.

  • Plan and coordinate the annual public meeting and other events to engage stakeholders and promote TCA’s mission.

  • Implement and monitor organizational policies and procedures to ensure effective operations.

JOB LOCATION: 

  • Must reside in Texas, with preference for central location such as Dallas or Austin areas.

  • Flexibility for working remotely and at the Dallas Office.

​

TRAVEL: 

  • Overnight travel within Texas 3-5 days a month, plus occasional conferences at other U.S. locations.

  • Reimbursement for airflight, mileage, and meals while traveling.

​

COMPENSATION: 

  • Salary range: $105,000 to $115,000, depending on experience.

  • Benefits competitive with similar organizations.

  • Four weeks of vacation, two weeks of health and wellbeing time, and eleven paid holidays.
